30-Day Song Challenge: Day 11

Day 11: A song from your favorite band.

"ガラスのブルース (Glass no Blues)" by Bump of Chicken.

Bet you saw this coming huh... Hahahah!
Well, I think anyone who comes across this blog would, no doubt, know that I'm a SUPER BIG fan of BoC. They're my most favorite band (Kings of Leon is a close second, haha), and I'm actually torn on which song to post. Aa~ the troubles of having a lot of great songs to choose from...

Whatever, I still have to pick one... And here you go, the first track from BoC's first studio album, Flame Vein. What I love most about this song is the music. For me, BoC makes some of the most exceptional guitar riffs and basslines (which I find quite difficult to play, fuuuu). Talk about incredibly talented people! By the way, the lead guitar in this song reminds me of Reiji Sakurai's Desert Rain...

TRANSLATION:

The cat with a glass eye sings, loud and proud
The cat with a glass eye sings, while wind brushes his beard, proudly he sings

If my voice withered, I’ll go to the river and lick my own reflection in the water
If today’s meal is better than yesterday’s
I’ll say “Today is a great day” and look up into the sky with a smile

Ah…I’ll always sing as hard as possible
Ah…I’ll always live as hard as I can

The cat with a glass eye sings, while starved, proudly he sings
The cat with a glass eye sings, as proof of life, proudly he sings
The cat with a glass eye shouts, life is short, proudly he shouts
The cat with a glass eye shouts, now is important, proudly he shouts

There is a meaning to life, therefore, I cannot waste one second
Even if storm comes, or rain falls
I will always, with full strength, look up into the sky with a smile

Ah…someday I’ll become one of the stars that twinkles in the sky
Ah…until that day, I’ll keep on singing

If my voice withered, I’ll go to the river and lick my own reflection in the water
There is a meaning to life, therefore, I cannot waste one second
Therefore, I’ll sing. I will alway sing. I will always sing. I’ll shout about “NOW”

The cat with a glass eye becomes a star in the sky, and his loud voice has stopped
The cat burned the last fragement of his life, and his favorite blues will never be heard again

But your blues is inscribed inside of everyone’s heart
From now on, if there’s anything terrible, everyone will start to sing
while remembering the cat with a glass eye
and look up into the sky and sings the glass blues

Ah…I always sing as hard as possible
Ah…I always live as hard as I can
Ah…If there’s a great shadow in front
Ah…I always sing as hard as possible

30-Day Song Challenge: Day 10

Day 10: A song that makes you fall asleep.

"Fields of Gold" by Eva Cassidy.

Let me just make it clear that I don't mean anything negative, given the rule. 'Cause you know how boring things tend to make you, well, fall asleep. Right? But definitely not the case for this song. Otherwise, I won't listen to it nor I would like it.

I actually prefer this cover more than the Sting original. The acoustic guitar is perfect, accompanied by Miss Cassidy's voice that is so powerful yet calm and soothing. This song is very peaceful and serene, and when I hear it, I imagine those 'fields of barley' at sunset. Yeah, just like in the lyrics.

Fields of Gold by Eva Cassidy

You’ll remember me when the west wind moves
Among the fields of barley
You can tell the sun in his jealous sky
When we walked in fields of gold

So she took her love for to gaze a while
Among the fields of barley
In his arms she fell as her hair came down
Among the fields of gold

Will you stay with me will you be my love
Among the fields of barley
And you can tell the sun in his jealous sky
When we walked in fields of gold

I never made promises lightly
There have been some that I’ve broken
But I swear in the days still left
We’ll walk in fields of gold
We’ll walk in fields of gold

I never made promises lightly
There have been some that I’ve broken
But I swear in the days still left
We’ll walk in fields of gold
We’ll walk in fields of gold

Many years have passed since those summer days
Among the fields of barley
See the children run as the sun goes down
As you lie in fields of gold

You’ll remember me when the west wind moves
Among the fields of barley
You can tell the sun in his jealous sky
When we walked in fields of gold
When we walked in fields of gold
When we walked in fields of gold

30-Day Song Challenge: Day 08 & Day 09

Gomen... I was unable to post Day 08 yesterday 'cause my friends and I went out to dinner and did some grocery shopping. I was dead tired when I came home, so I didn't have the chance to post this. Anyway, moving on...

Day 08: A song that you know all the words to.

"Vector" by Maaya Sakamoto.

Surprise, surprise! It's not my favorite song. Rather, it's a little-known song (I guess) from another Japanese artist, Maaya. This has become one of my favorites ever since hearing it as part of Vision of Escaflowne soundtrack.

I really love everything about Vector, from the vocals to the instruments to the lyrics. I also have the karaoke version of this song for sing-along, but you wouldn't want to hear me do it. That's for personal enjoyment only. Meheheheh... ^__~

Vector by Maaya Sakamoto

Told myself for a long time, don't go there
You will only be sorry
Told myself so many times
I just had to take a look in those faraway eyes

In them I saw a longing for something
Maybe I couldn't give you
Said it's all in my mind
"It ain't nothing"

Don't say that, don't say that
Darling, no
Don't say anything at all
Because I've seen it now
Can't pretend anymore
"It ain't nothing"

Do you know what I mean?
And have you seen it too?
Do you know what I mean?
Do you know?
And I'll do anything
Just tell me what it means
'Cause I can't live in doubt anymore
Do we try or should we just say goodbye

If you'd rather be somewhere that's not here
Then you just gotta tell me
'Cause there's so much more to life than pretending

Don't you know, don't you know
Darling for you
I'd do anything at all
I wanna be with you
But that look in your eyes
Tells me something

Do you know what I mean?
And have you seen it too?
Do you know what I mean?
Do you know?
And I'll do anything
Just tell me what it means
'Cause I can't live in doubt anymore
Do we try or should we just say goodbye

I wanna know, can you tell me
I wanna know, will you tell me
Is it hello, is it goodbye?

I gotta know, won't you tell me
I gotta know, you can tell me
Is it hello or just goodbye?

I gotta know, can you tell me
I gotta know, will you tell me
Is it hello, is it goodbye?

I gotta know, won't you tell me
I gotta know, you can tell me
Is it hello, is it goodbye?

Day 09: A song that you can dance to.

"Crazy in Love" by Beyonce.

I think this is the last song I danced to, during our team presentation for the 2008 company Christmas party. No more, no more... -_-

30-Day Song Challenge: Day 07

Day 07: A song that reminds you of a certain event.

"If We Hold On Together" by Diana Ross.

This is the theme song of our high school graduation. I can still clearly remember crying after (and even during) singing this... I was thinking at the time that me and my friends, and classmates of 4 years, were going separate ways, and that we may never see each other again. Good thing up to this day, we still try to keep in touch and see each other every now and then.

Ah~ I surely miss my high school days. Undoubtedly, those were some of the best in my life...

30-Day Song Challenge: Day 06 + Something Different...

Day 06: A song that reminds you of somewhere.

"Last Summer" by Lostprophets.

This song reminds me of Antipolo, where our team (from my previous company) spent a whole weekend for team building. Too bad I couldn't remember for the life of me what the name of the actual place is...

So, after that, one of my teammates made this nifty montage using our photos from the trip. Last Summer was the background song.

There you go~

(credits to Visible Noise for the cool video)

Moving on...

Changing hairstyles is not something I'm really concerned about, especially at work. I'm comfortable with the girly vibe of my long wavy hair when I wear it down, or the laid-back feel when it's up using a hair clamp. I just don't know what came over me yesterday, I decided to combine the two styles, aiming for something like this:

Which looked like this:

Urk. FAIL?!

Although some of my teammates noticed and they told me it's cute, just like an anime girl. Or they'd call me "Koreanang cartoon" LOLZ! I actually refer to myself as "Haponesang dilat" (wide-eyed Japanese). Hahahaa!

But I sorta liked it. Well, guess I just need to make it more neat next time. Ohohoho~

30-Day Song Challenge: Day 05

Day 05: A song that reminds you of someone.

"Collide" by Howie Day.

I love this song. Not just for the music and lyrics (not to mention I find Howie Day cute...) but it also reminds me of one of my best gal pals, Christine. When I hear this, I remember the time (a few years back) we were talking, laughing and crying, over our respective love lives. We basically treat Collide as one of our theme songs. Tee-hee...

Day 04: A song that makes you sad.

"Best I Ever Had" by Vertical Horizon.

Dunno why. It's probably the music. It's probably the lyrics. Or both. Honestly, I was listening to this while writing this post and I started sniffing and get all teary-eyed. I'm sure it's not caused by my current bout with cold...

Well, if I look at it deeper, it may be so that I was actually able to relate to the lyrics' meaning, at some point in my life. Love, as it is about. Or maybe I'm just too emo, hahaa! Either way, this is one song that never fails to break my heart...

(credits to ISincerity for the video with the amazing photos)

Just listen to the music and see the lyrics. I'm sure you'll get what I mean...

J-Rock Sunday + 30-Day Song Challenge: Day 03

Today is Sunday, this song is J-Rock, and this is the third day of the challenge. Cheating! LOLZ!

Day 03: A song that makes you happy.

"宇宙飛行士への手紙 (Uchuuhikoushi e no Tegami)" by Bump of Chicken. The title translates to "Letter to an Astronaut".

Now, this is quite easy. I have a lot of songs that make me happy, but this is the first one that popped up in my mind.

When I hear a song (especially foreign ones), I listen to the melody/music first before considering the lyrics. This one is no exception. The lyrics, when you read and understand its translation, convey a feeling of longing and sadness. But when I hear its upbeat sound, I can't help but feel happy. Even when I'm at work, I bob my head to the music, sway left and right, and even do this:

Nante ne!

Anyway, for those who are curious, here are the video, lyrics, and translation of the song...

TRANSLATION:

Two heels on the brick road
I sang in the space between the sun and the rain
The scent and the color takes me back
To a time when this present was my future

Streaks of lightning like a spider’s web
Broke up the sky in a flash and then vanished
A thrill in my heart that doesn’t fit just one genre
Adolescent legs, running

It’s impossible to understand what happened
To know something that you have no memory of
If I tell you with words
All that will come across are words

The reason I wish to be away from you as little as possible
Is because I can never meet you, before I’ve met you
Because one day our present will be our past, and there’ll be no going back
Because I hope to return to the present that is our future

An hourglass flipped over
The same sand marks a different two minute interval
Everything is irreplaceable
Everyone knows that

I want to touch a triceratops
I want to gaze upon the earth from Gemini
I wonder if it’s possible with the time I’ve been given
Is it a long time? Or a short one?

Let’s go everywhere together
And gather memories shared between us
Let’s talk it over as many times as need be
Tell each other so we don’t forget

The reason I honestly believe in something so unreal sounding as “til death do us part”
Is because I could meet you in the living flesh like this
And because one day I’ll become a star and be all alone again
Because the good times we share now, are surely being lit from behind us

The reason I wish to be away from you as little as possible
Because you quietly revealed to me the scars you bear from before we met
The reason I honestly believe in something so unreal sounding as “til death do us part”
Is because we survived the lightning and lived to see it together

And because one day I’ll become a star and be all alone again
Memories of the good times we shared, will always protect us into the future

Four heels on the brick road
We sang in the space between yesterday and tomorrow
Everything is irreplaceable
It’s something I only knew from words

30-Day Song Challenge: Day 02

Ohayou!

Hmm... I'm greeting with a "Good morning" even though this post is not-so-good. Yeah, right.

Day 02: Your least favorite song.

"Rap Das Armas (Parapapapa)" by Cidinho and Doca.

Gah! This is probably my effin' hardest post to date. First of all, the rule confused me a bit. I'm not sure if it's asking for a song which is in the bottom of my favorites list (err, which is also hard), or my most-hated song. I just chose the latter. Ohohoho~

You know, I can't really describe how I abhor this song (call me exaggerated). Imagine, I don't know the actual title and the artist of this song until today that I searched it on Google. Which is a painful and awkward process, you get what I mean... It reminds me of those annoying patok jeepneys with blaring, headache-inducing sounds from cheap speakers. When I start to hear it, it makes me want to immediately grab my own earphones and put my mp3 player on full volume (barring getting deaf of course). And when someone I know sings the 'parapapapa' part, I let my inner bitch take over and tell them how irritating it is. And that I'll smack them right up if they don't stop, which is effective by the way...

I'm never gonna post the video or the mp3 so please spare me and just search it on the web if you wanna hear it...

Okay, there goes my mini-rant. Whew!
